A Christmas To Cure Cancer didn't set out to be that at all. A bunch of Ohio friends simply thought recording a Christmas record might be fun. This they did for a couple of years. Then one of the friends was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. After a year long battle, with many complications, Lorne was doing much better and the friends resumed their recording of Christmas music. But the battle with cancer had now shaped the mission, given it a purpose.
This year, A Christmas To Cure Cancer releases their 5th multi-genre Christmas compilation since 2002. They've also released a Blues For A Cure Christmas CD, a pair of Christmas CDs from Kelly Delaveris, and a handful of non-Christmas albums. Still Ohio based, they now receive musical contributions from around the country. This year's album features tracks from Jimmy Thackery (Nighthawks) and House of Heroes.
And speaking of the music, A Christmas To Cure Cancer offers up the kind of diversity I pray for on a Christmas record--everything from hard rock to solo piano. There's blues, there's country, there's folk, there's pop. There's something for every taste. Originals and old standards. My curiosity has been especially peaked by this year's song samples; seems there's a blues version of "Bells of St. Mary's". Hmmm, that's good stuff.
Many of these artists have family members and friends who are surviving cancer, and some have lost family members and friends. The fight will continue. And the money raised by A Christmas To Cure Cancer, and organizations like it, will help fund that fight.
